2 civilians killed as Russian strikes hit residential areas in Kyiv, Ukraine

A Russian attack on the Ukrainian capital overnight left two people dead and 10 others injured, the National Police of Ukraine reported on September 8, 2026.

Damage and falling debris were recorded across multiple districts of Kyiv, including Shevchenkivskyi, Holosiivskyi, Darnytskyi, Obolonskyi, Podilskyi, Solomianskyi, and Dniprovskyi. Multi-apartment residential buildings, a school, shops, an administrative building, and vehicles were damaged.

The highest number of casualties occurred in the Solomianskyi district, where two people were killed and eight others (aged 22 to 65) sustained injuries. Medics reported cut and shrapnel wounds as well as trauma to the face, neck, torso, and limbs.

In the Holosiivskyi district, a 62-year-old man sought medical help for an acute stress reaction. In the Darnytskyi district, a 29-year-old foreign national was wounded.

Investigative-operational teams, explosive ordnance disposal specialists, and other emergency services continue working at the sites. Police are documenting the damage, collecting evidence, and recording the consequences of the attack. Approximately 100 police officers have been deployed to assist with the response.
