2 killed as Myanmar air force jets bomb a family home in Lemyethna, Myanmar

A father and son were killed in a Myanmar Air Force airstrike on their home in Pantawgyi village, Lemyethna Township, Ayeyarwady (Irrawaddy) Region, on Saturday (early morning attack). Three other homes were also destroyed. The village is under the control of unidentified resistance forces, according to residents.

The township has already been hard-hit by severe flooding since the Ngawun Dam collapsed on July 30. The airstrike occurred as communities across Myanmar continued to struggle with widespread monsoon flooding that has displaced hundreds of thousands of people and heightened humanitarian needs.

According to the National Unity Government (NUG), at least 88 civilians were killed and 157 injured in 239 regime airstrikes between August 8–23 across multiple regions and states. Flooding has also affected areas such as Shan State and Tanintharyi Region (where more than 2,000 people have been displaced since early August). Residents in Tanintharyi report urgent needs for medicine, clean water, and food amid ongoing rains and health issues from contaminated water.

The regime has allocated funds for flood relief, and weather forecasts warned of continued heavy rain, strong winds, and rough seas in the coming days.
