3 killed as gunmen open fire inside a local business in Cali, Colombia

On the night of September 6, 2026, several armed men entered an establishment in the Alto Nápoles neighborhood in southern Cali, Valle del Cauca department, and opened fire on people inside.

The attack left three people dead:

• Yoni Esteban Quinayas Armero, 32
• Cristhian Andrés Gallego Morcillo, 29
• Ana Julieth Grijalba Hernández, 31

After the shooting, the assailants fled on motorcycles.

The Colombian human rights organization Indepaz has classified the incident as the 89th massacre recorded in the country in 2026. The Ombudsman’s Office (Defensoría del Pueblo) had previously issued an early warning (AT 012/25) noting that Cali has become a strategic hub for organized crime, with significant youth recruitment and use of the city as a criminal platform and refuge by armed groups.

Armed groups reported to operate in the area include the ELN, structures of the Western Bloc Commander Jacobo Arenas (Jaime Martínez, Carlos Patiño and Manuel Cepeda Vargas fronts), the National Coordinator of the Bolivarian Army, the Clan del Golfo (EGC), and local criminal bands. The area falls under the jurisdiction of the Colombian Army’s Third Division.
