4 killed as gunmen on motorcycles attack a resort in Montecristi, Ecuador

Four people were killed and one other was wounded in a shooting at a recreational center in the Aníbal San Andrés area of Montecristi canton, Manabí province, early on the evening of September 6, 2026.

Armed assailants opened fire at the La Ponderosa complex (in the 10 de Enero neighborhood), which includes a pool and sports facilities. Among the victims was a 12-year-old girl. One of the injured later died in hospital, bringing the death toll to four. Police are investigating the attack.
