10 killed in early-morning shooting at entertainment venue in South Africa

Western Cape police have launched a multi-disciplinary investigation after gunmen opened fire at an entertainment venue that also sells braaied meat (shisanyama) in Lwandle, leaving 10 people dead and 11 others injured.

According to the South African Police Service, the attack occurred at approximately 01:46 on Sunday morning. Gunmen entered the premises and shot at patrons. Five people died at the scene, while five more later succumbed to their injuries after being taken to medical facilities. Eleven others remain under medical treatment.

Lwandle police have opened murder and attempted murder cases. Western Cape Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Sizakhele Dyantyi has established a specialised team led by serious violent crime detectives to probe the incident. No arrests have been made so far.

Police have increased deployments in the area as the search for the perpetrators continues. The identities of the deceased will be released once their next of kin have been informed.
