2 people killed in an armed ambush overnight in Samborondón, Ecuador

An armed attack on the night of Thursday, September 24, 2026, left two people dead and one injured in the Tarifa parish of Samborondón canton, in Ecuador’s Guayas province.

The incident occurred around 10:00 p.m. in the area known as the Bellavista track. According to witnesses, a group of people had gathered when several armed individuals opened fire.

One victim died next to a building, while the second was found lying in the road about 10 meters away. A third person was wounded and taken to a medical facility. Authorities have not released an official update on the injured person’s condition.

National Police officers cordoned off the area to collect evidence and manage the scene. Military personnel also arrived to support the operation. The bodies were transferred to the morgue before midnight.

Local residents told Ecuavisa that one of the deceased was a professional footballer. However, at the time of reporting, the National Police had not confirmed this claim or officially released the identities or occupations of the victims.

No arrests have been reported, and the motives behind the attack as well as the identities of the perpetrators remain unknown.

The violence took place just hours before the start of a curfew in force in Guayas province under a state of emergency declared by the government.
