2 civilians killed as Russian strikes hit four districts in Sumy, Ukraine

Over the past day, Russian forces shelled 20 settlements across four districts of Ukraine’s Sumy region, using guided aerial bombs (KABs), artillery, mortars, and various attack drones.

In the Sumy community, guided aerial bomb strikes wounded 12 civilians, among them four children — girls aged 17 and 8, and boys aged 14 and 8. The adult casualties included men aged 64, 69 and 53, and women aged 54, 72, 58, 44 and 47. A separate drone strike injured another 44-year-old woman. The attacks damaged a shopping and entertainment centre, one apartment building, 15 private houses, business infrastructure, two shops, three cars, power lines and a railway track.

In the Shostka community, a drone strike killed a 49-year-old man and wounded a 47-year-old woman. Fifteen private houses were damaged.

A 78-year-old woman who had been wounded on 8 September when enemy drones hit a train in Sumy district died in hospital. Additionally, a 35-year-old man sought medical treatment for injuries sustained in a drone attack in the Sumy community on 8 September, and a 41-year-old man from the Hlukhiv community reported injuries from a drone strike on 9 September.

Police investigative teams, explosives experts and other emergency services are documenting the damage and collecting evidence. Criminal proceedings have been opened under Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (war crimes).
