Woman fatally stabbed as man attacks her in Ratzeburg supermarket, Germany

A woman was fatally injured in a violent attack at a supermarket on Bahnhofsallee in Ratzeburg on Wednesday afternoon, September 9, 2026.

According to a joint statement from the Lübeck Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Lübeck Police Directorate, the incident occurred around 3:35 p.m. A 44-year-old German man allegedly attacked the woman with a sharp weapon, causing fatal injuries. The suspect himself sustained serious injuries during the incident.

Police sealed off a wide area around the scene. The homicide investigation unit of the regional criminal investigation department, together with the Lübeck Public Prosecutor’s Office, has opened an investigation on suspicion of a killing offence.
