1 cop killed as separatists attack a government convoy in Wum, Cameroon

Mbah Tobie Damase, a police commissioner with the Special Branch, was killed on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, during an attack targeting the convoy of the prefect of Cameroon’s Menchum department (Northwest Region).

Five teachers were also abducted in the same incident. The exact circumstances and location of the attack remain unclear, and authorities have not yet issued an official statement.

Menchum, whose capital is Wum, has been affected by the separatist conflict that began in 2016. The attack occurred at the start of the 2026-2027 school year.
