2 civilians killed in a Russian airstrike on the city of Sumy in Ukraine

On the morning of September 26, 2026, Russian forces carried out an airstrike on the center of the northeastern Ukrainian city of Sumy using guided aerial bombs (KABs), according to Ukrainian authorities.

The National Police of Ukraine reported that the attack killed two people and injured six others. Among the wounded is a one-and-a-half-year-old child. All the injured are receiving medical care. Police are documenting the aftermath at the scene.

Serhii Kryvosheienko, head of the Sumy City Military Administration, said Russian troops struck the central part of the city with what were preliminarily identified as three KAB bombs.

The strikes damaged an administrative building, residential high-rises, and a closed café in a park area. Information on the full extent of the casualties and destruction continues to be verified.

This attack comes amid ongoing Russian strikes on the Sumy region, which has faced frequent bombardments with aerial bombs, drones, and other weapons throughout the war.
