Dozens killed in Sudanese armed forces drone strike on Nyala market in Sudan

A drone strike by the Sudanese Armed Forces hit a busy market in western Nyala, the capital of South Darfur, Sudan, at around 8 p.m. local time on 26 October, causing complete devastation among the people gathered there. A second strike also hit a civilian neighbourhood.

The MSF-supported Nyala Teaching Hospital has so far received the bodies of 36 people, 21 of whom were wearing civilian clothing. Medical teams reported treating over 150 wounded patients in the emergency room, including women and children, many with shrapnel injuries, severe burns and blood on their faces. Patients were carried to the hospital on tuk-tuks and donkey carts from the market.

The attack follows a similar incident in Nyala on 16 October, when a drone struck Al-Mawashi market, killing at least four people and injuring many more. MSF condemned the strikes, stating that markets, homes and key civilian infrastructure are not targets and that all parties to the conflict must protect civilians.
