Armed attack in Villa Canales commercial district leaves 2 dead in Guatemala

Two people were killed and three others wounded in an armed attack in Zone 1 of Villa Canales, in the Guatemala department, on Monday evening, according to local emergency services and Guatemalan media.

The shooting occurred at a commercial complex on 10th Street and 2nd Avenue, in Zone 1 of Villa Canales. Reports said the attack targeted a food-and-drinks business on the second level of the building, where gunmen opened fire on several people.

Volunteer Firefighters from the 54th Company said two victims died at the scene from gunshot wounds. Three other people were stabilized by paramedics and taken to a medical facility for treatment.

The National Civil Police (PNC) arrived at the site and cordoned off the area while investigators responded to the shooting. Authorities had not publicly identified the victims or disclosed a possible motive as of the initial reports.

Local outlet Prensa Libre reported that the bodies of the two deceased victims remained in a corridor of the building while emergency crews and police managed the scene.

The Volunteer Firefighters confirmed the casualty figures in a public update: responders transferred three injured people, while two people were reported dead at the location.

The case remains under investigation, and further details—including the victims’ identities, their conditions, and whether any suspects have been identified—had not been released at the time of reporting.
