11 people killed in a blast targeting a police checkpost in Pakistan

At least 11 people were killed and 20 others injured on Saturday when a bomb targeted a police checkpost in Aman Mela, near Darazinda in Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to Rescue 1122 officials.

The dead included eight men, two women and one child. Rescue teams continued operations at the site, recovering victims from the debris.

The blast occurred at the Aman Mela checkpost, located near Mughal Kot and Darazinda on the DI Khan-Quetta Road, close to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa-Balochistan border. The post is used by police for security and vehicle checks along the route.

Police dispatched bomb disposal teams to determine the nature and cause of the explosion. Rescue 1122 said 20 injured people received initial medical aid, with 18 referred to facilities in Darazinda and Mufti Mahmood Hospital in DI Khan. More than 25 personnel, six ambulances and a fire vehicle were involved in the response. Four additional ambulances were later sent from DI Khan. Mobile phone services were unavailable in the area.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi sought a report from senior officials and directed that full medical facilities be provided to the injured. He described the attack as “a nefarious conspiracy by Fitna al-Hindustan Khawarij.”

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the blast, expressing condolences to the victims’ families. “The cowardly acts of kharjis cannot weaken the nation’s firm resolve against terrorism,” he said, noting that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remains on the front lines of the fight against terrorism.

The incident comes amid a rise in terrorist activity in the province in recent months, with frequent attacks on security forces. Earlier this month, police foiled a TTP attack on a checkpost in DI Khan’s Daraban area. On September 18, an attack on the old Police Lines in Kohat killed 23 people and injured around 100; eight terrorists were killed in a subsequent clearance operation. Pakistan later carried out airstrikes on terrorist hideouts near the Afghan border.
