3 family members brutally killed with weapons during a robbery in Uganda

Police in Kazo District, Uganda, have arrested three suspects in connection with a violent attack that left three people dead and two others seriously injured.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, 25 September 2026, at Kagasha 1 Cell, Nkungu Parish, Nkungu Sub-county. The deceased were identified as Ntegyerize Afusa, 47, and two juveniles: Tumuramye Sudais, 14, and Nuwandinda Asifa, 11. The injured survivors are Nagasha Zulaika, 16, a pupil, and Nuwahereza Aramazani, 13. Both were rushed to a health facility and are receiving treatment.

Nuwahereza Abdul Ratifu reported the matter to Nkungu Police Station around 0800hrs that morning. He said he had gone to his mother’s home to collect his tricycle (tuk-tuk) for work and found the house open, with the bodies of his mother, brother and sister lying in pools of blood. He also found the two injured children in another bedroom and took them for medical care before alerting police.

A case file was opened at Kazo Central Police Station under Kazo CRB 690/2026.

Preliminary investigations suggest the attackers acted on information that Afusa had received about UGX 1.5 million, which was kept in her room. They allegedly entered through an unsecured back door and used a hammer, panga and walking stick during the assault before stealing the money.

Detectives deployed a sniffer dog at the scene. The dog picked up a scent that led officers to Nuwamanya Christopher, who was arrested. His arrest then led to the apprehension of two alleged accomplices, Nuwamanya Micheal and Asiimwe Abel.

Police searched the suspects’ homes and recovered several exhibits linked to the incident. These items are being secured for forensic examination. The three suspects remain in custody as investigations continue to establish the full circumstances and the roles of those involved.

SP Samson Kasasira, Police Public Relations Officer for Rwizi Region, confirmed the breakthrough and stated that inquiries are ongoing.
