2 killed after hitmen attack teenager and clash with police in Guatemala

National Civil Police (PNC) officers fatally shot a suspected hitman and wounded a minor during an armed confrontation in Zone 6 on Tuesday evening, authorities said. A 16-year-old boy who had been attacked moments earlier was found dead about 60 meters from the scene.

According to the PNC, agents from the SGAIA unit spotted the suspects in the area of 21st Avenue 10-95 in Colonia Cipresales, Zone 6, after an armed attack. When officers attempted to stop them, the individuals opened fire. In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, one suspect was killed and a second person, identified as a minor, was wounded. The injured minor was taken to a medical facility under police custody.

The suspects were traveling on a Hero Hunk motorcycle with license plates M745JHR. Officers seized a 9mm Pietro Beretta pistol that had been reported stolen in January 2018.

Police said the pair had allegedly used the same weapon to attack another minor, approximately 16 years old, shortly before the confrontation. That victim died near the location of the shootout.

Authorities are continuing investigative procedures to clarify the full circumstances and determine the involvement of those involved.

The PNC released the information in an official thread accompanied by photos of the scene, the seized weapon and motorcycle, and video footage.
