Man shot dead by gunmen on motorcycle at a local taco shop in Guatemala

A 30-year-old man was killed and a woman of the same age was wounded late Monday night in a shooting at a taco shop in the Los Maiceros sector of La Terminal market, Zone 4, Retalhuleu.

According to witnesses who requested anonymity, two men on a scooter (motocicleta pasola) arrived at the eatery and opened fire on a couple without saying a word. The attackers then fled the scene.

The man, identified preliminarily as Brandon Pérez, was found lying beside the business entrance with multiple gunshot wounds. The woman, identified as Victoria López, was treated by volunteer firefighters and taken to a hospital emergency room. Locals said the two were a couple.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances and possible motive. Preliminary lines of inquiry—still unconfirmed—include a possible extortion-related attack or a targeted assault specifically against the couple. Officials are withholding further details while the probe continues.
