1 man killed as gunmen open fire from a car in Quinta Normal, Chile

One person was killed and another was injured in a shooting in the Quinta Normal district of Santiago in the early hours of Thursday, September 17, 2026, according to Chilean media reports citing the Organized Crime Unit (ECOH) of the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Investigative Police (PDI).

The victims, both reported to be Venezuelan nationals, were riding a motorcycle when they were approached and shot at by occupants of a car on Calle Villasana, near its intersection with Vargas Fontecilla/Los Andes, shortly after midnight. Both men managed to reach the Félix Bulnes Hospital on their own; one was pronounced dead on arrival, while the other was hospitalized in stable condition and is reported to be out of life-threatening danger.

Dozens of bullet casings were recovered at the scene as part of ongoing ballistic analysis. As of the latest reports, no arrests had been made and the motive for the attack remained under investigation.

Local outlets including T13, La Tercera, Emol, ADN Radio, Chilevisión, Meganoticias, Radio Agricultura, Cooperativa and 24 Horas have covered the case, all attributing details to statements by ECOH prosecutor Héctor López and PDI investigators.

An official press release from Carabineros de Chile, the PDI or the Fiscalía had not yet appeared on their institutional websites or verified social media accounts as of the afternoon of September 17.
