1 killed as gunmen open fire inside a car in San Ramón town, Chile

A gunman on a motorcycle opened fire on two men inside a parked car in the San Ramón district of Santiago early on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, killing the passenger on the spot and leaving the driver in critical condition.

The attack occurred around 03:30 local time at the intersection of Ramón Barros Luco and Goycolea streets in San Ramón, in Chile’s Metropolitan Region.

Two suspects arrived on a motorcycle. One of them dismounted or leaned in and fired multiple shots into a white car where the victims were seated.

Both victims are reported to be adult Chilean men. The passenger died at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds; the driver suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was rushed to Padre Hurtado Hospital, where he remains in grave or life‑threatening condition.

The Homicides Brigade of the PDI (Policía de Investigaciones) and the ECOH Prosecutor’s Office are leading the case.

Investigators are reviewing security camera footage from the area and analyzing ballistic evidence.

Authorities have not disclosed the identities of the victims or the shooters, and no arrests have been reported so far. A possible motive under consideration is a settling of scores (“ajuste de cuentas”), though this remains unconfirmed.
