2 people killed after Russian forces strike Kharkiv region in Ukraine
Over the past day, Russian forces shelled the city of Kharkiv and settlements in the Kharkiv, Kupiansk, Izium, Chuhuiv and Bohodukhiv districts, using guided aviation munitions, multiple-launch rocket systems and various types of drones against civilians, Ukraineโs National Police reported on 5 October 2026.
In Kharkiv, strikes hit the Shevchenkivskyi, Kyivskyi and Industrialnyi districts. A 42-year-old man was killed. A 41-year-old resident suffered an acute stress reaction, and five other people were wounded, including three police officers. Two of the officers were hospitalised. Residential buildings, a non-residential structure, vehicles, an educational institution and an administrative building were damaged.
In the settlement of Velykyi Burluk in Kupiansk district, a police officer was killed while on duty. Another officer was injured and is receiving medical care.
In Derhachi (Kharkiv district), a drone strike damaged a civilian cargo truck parked near a house.
In Zolochiv (Bohodukhiv district), a vehicle was destroyed. A man born in 1981 and a woman born in 1963 sustained injuries. Homes, outbuildings, civilian cars and an ambulance were also damaged. In the village of Tsapivka, a residential property came under attack. Between the villages of Havryshi and Sukhyny, a strike hit the asphalt surface of a petrol station, damaging the building, the operatorโs office faรงade and fuel pumps.
In Izium, at least 23 houses were damaged and two men were wounded and taken to hospital. In Balakliia, a vegetable storage facility was damaged. On a road near the settlement of Borova, a drone attacked a civilian car, injuring a man and a woman who later sought medical help independently.
On 4 October, police conducted 12 scene examinations and opened 45 criminal proceedings related to Russiaโs armed aggression. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, investigators in the Kharkiv region have registered information on 32,962 war crimes committed in the oblast.
