Professional soldier killed during combat with an armed rebel group in Colombia
A Colombian Army soldier was killed early Monday morning during a combat encounter with an illegal armed group in the rural area of Caquetรก department, military authorities reported.
According to an official statement from the Fuerza de Tarea Omega of the Colombian National Army, troops from the Rapid Deployment Battalion No. 34 (part of the Rapid Deployment Force No. 12) were conducting military operations in the vereda Pensilvania, in the general area of the municipality of San Vicente del Caguรกn, when they engaged in a clash, reportedly with members of the Rodrigo Cadete structure.
Professional soldier Brayan Ome Rojas was killed during the confrontation. The Army described him as a โHero Foreverโ and expressed deep regret over his death, honoring his service, dedication, and commitment to protecting the population and contributing to security in the region.
Military authorities said an interdisciplinary team has been deployed to provide psychological, spiritual, assistance, and administrative support to the soldierโs family and loved ones.
As a preliminary result of the operation, two individuals were captured in flagrante delicto and a significant amount of war material was seized. Both the captives and the seized materials will be turned over to the competent judicial authorities.
The Army confirmed that military operations continue in the area with the aim of consolidating control. Officials reiterated their commitment to fulfilling their constitutional mission of protecting the civilian population and ensuring the security of the territory.
The statement closed with the institutional motto: โPatria, Honor, Lealtadโ (Homeland, Honor, Loyalty).
