2 civilians killed during Russian airstrikes in the Kyiv region, Ukraine

A Russian combined missile and drone attack on the Kyiv region overnight into September 30, 2026, killed a child and injured three other people, including another child, Ukrainian officials reported.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine stated that the child, born in 2012, died as a result of the strikes. Rescuers in the town of Vyshhorod worked until the last moment to save a person trapped in the rubble of a destroyed private residential house but were unable to do so.

According to Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, emergency workers pulled three people from under the rubble of the destroyed house. One was a child suffering from acute stress reaction; a man sustained shrapnel wounds to the head, and a woman suffered a leg injury. All three are receiving medical care. The body of the second child was later found beneath the debris.

The impact destroyed a private home. Fires also broke out in another private house and an outbuilding. Flames destroyed eight garages in a cooperative; the number of damaged or destroyed vehicles is still being clarified. All fires have been extinguished, and clearance operations continue.

Damage was also reported elsewhere in the region. In Vyshhorod district, additional private houses were damaged or destroyed and windows broken. In Bucha district, three private houses, 11 vehicles, and two warehouse facilities were damaged, with a fire recorded. Infrastructure facilities in Bucha, Vyshhorod, and Obukhiv districts were also affected.

The same night’s attacks struck Kyiv itself, causing further casualties and fires in several districts of the capital, according to earlier reports from Ukrainian authorities.

Emergency services remain on site clearing debris and assessing the full extent of the destruction.
