1 insurgent killed as army fires back on a mountain in Cho-airong, Thailand

Thai security forces engaged in a firefight with a group of violent perpetrators on Mount Tawae in Tambon Juab, Cho Ai Rong district, Narathiwat province on September 9, 2026.

According to a statement from the Internal Security Operations Command Region 4 Forward Command (ISOC Region 4), a joint special operations unit based in Narathiwat was conducting a law enforcement operation to track the group when the suspects opened fire with unknown firearms. Officers returned fire in response.

Preliminary reports indicate that one member of the violent group was killed. All security personnel involved in the operation are safe.
