Police constable shot dead after abduction by armed assailants in Pakistan

A police constable was abducted from his home and later found shot dead in the Chamkani area of Peshawar, officials said, in an attack police attributed to terrorists.

Constable Shah Mast Khan, who was posted at Pahari Pura Police Station, was taken from his residence in Mehr Gul Killi (also referred to as Mehrgul Kalay) around 2 a.m. by unidentified armed men operating within the jurisdiction of Chamkani Police Station. His bullet-riddled body was subsequently recovered near the Mera Kachori Canal (also reported as the area near Badi Nehr or Ghut Nehr) in Chamkani.

Capital City Police Peshawar stated that the constable was martyred in firing by terrorists. Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are working to identify and apprehend those responsible.

The funeral prayer for Constable Shah Mast Khan was offered with full official honours on Friday at Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines in Peshawar. A contingent of police presented a guard of honour. The ceremony was attended by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, the Inspector General of Police, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Peshawar, senior police and army officials, other officers, personnel, and the martyrโ€™s family members. Officials laid floral wreaths on the coffin and offered condolences to the bereaved family.

The killing comes amid ongoing security challenges in the region, with police continuing operations against militant elements. No group had immediately claimed responsibility for the attack at the time of reporting.
