15 killed in suspected Boko Haram jihadists attack in Nigeria’s Borno state

Suspected Islamist militants killed at least 15 people in an attack on Thursday in Marte, a town in northeastern Nigeria’s Borno state, local reports said.

According to accounts from the region, the attackers — widely believed to be Boko Haram fighters — struck while residents were collecting firewood in the bush.

Local residents and a survivor said three other people who were with the victims remain missing. Mustapha Grema, a resident of Marte, told AFP that the 15 bodies were buried on Thursday evening and that searches for the missing continued.

Security challenges in Nigeria remain a major concern ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with violence intensifying in recent months.
