2 community guards killed as suspected militants attack watch post in Nigeria

At least two people were killed and three others injured when suspected militants attacked a civilian guard post in Mangor, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, late on Sunday night.

The attack occurred around 10 p.m. in Angwan Tsarki, a residential area of a Christian farming settlement in Mangor, located about 45 miles south of Jos, the state capital. The victims were community volunteers on night-watch duty when the assailants struck.

Conflict reporter Masara Kim reported the incident, sharing a video of injured victims receiving treatment at a local hospital. Crowds of distressed women were seen gathered outside the facility. A survivor texted: โ€œFulani attack us in Angwan Sarki, Mangor, Bokkos and kill two, injured 3. Iโ€™m among the victims who sustained injuries.โ€

In a separate clip from the community, a man whose face was not shown recounted how the attackers killed and injured residents.

Mangor, in western Bokkos LGA, has a history of violence, including a major attack in 2013 in which more than 27 people were killed. The latest incident follows recent shootings in South Jos and Dorowa Babuje, as well as the killing of a pastor on his way to church on September 20.

The attack adds to ongoing concerns over insecurity in parts of Plateau State, particularly Bokkos and surrounding areas that have seen repeated violence.

Alfred Alabo, spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, did not respond to calls or messages seeking comment at the time of the report.
