2 men killed after gunmen fire over forty shots at car in Mexico

Two unidentified men were shot dead on Friday afternoon in a direct armed attack in the center of Valle de Santiago, Guanajuato.

The incident occurred shortly before 5:00 p.m. at the intersection of Democracia and Libertad streets. The victims were traveling in a black Volkswagen Jetta when they were intercepted by armed assailants in a pickup truck.

Gunmen fired more than 40 rounds at the vehicle. The driver lost control and crashed into other cars. The attackers then approached on foot and continued shooting. They briefly drove away in a black truck before returning to finish off the victims and fleeing the scene.

Municipal police and paramedics responded to emergency calls. The driver died inside the car. His passenger was taken to a nearby clinic with vital signs but died shortly afterward in the emergency area. Authorities secured the scene to collect evidence.

As of the latest reports, both victims remain unidentified, and no arrests have been made. Officials are investigating the double homicide amid ongoing violence in the Bajío region, linked to territorial disputes between the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel and the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).
