Police officer killed after armed militants attack patrol car in Zahedan, Iran

An Iranian police officer was killed and several attackers wounded in an armed assault on a patrol vehicle in the Nasratabad district of Zahedan on Thursday, according to provincial security forces.

The Sistan and Baluchestan Police Public Relations Office confirmed that Third Lieutenant Vahid Enayat (وحید عنایت), a member of the Nasratabad tactical unit, was killed in the attack.

Several of the armed assailants were wounded in the ensuing firefight before fleeing the scene.

The Nasratabad tactical unit patrol was carrying out a security mission on the Lashk–Zahedan road when it came under fire from armed militants described by authorities as “terrorists” and “criminal groups.”

Security forces returned fire, forcing the attackers to retreat.

Officials said those responsible have been identified and that security units are conducting operations to arrest them.

The incident adds to a recent wave of violence in Iran’s restive southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan, where police and Revolutionary Guard personnel have been targeted in multiple attacks over the past weeks. No group has publicly claimed responsibility for Thursday’s attack so far.
