2 ISIS terrorists killed by counter-terrorism forces during a raid in Iraq

Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service (CTS) forces carried out a targeted security operation in the Altun Kupri area of Kirkuk Governorate on Sunday, September 27, 2026, killing two terrorists affiliated with the remnants of the Islamic State (ISIS) and arresting a third.

According to an official statement from the CTS, the elite unit engaged three militants during the raid. The clash resulted in the deaths of two of the suspects, while the third was taken into custody. The operation was conducted under judicial warrants as part of ongoing intelligence-driven efforts to track down remaining ISIS cells in the country.

The CTS emphasized that the action forms part of continuous security and intelligence campaigns aimed at eliminating terrorist remnants. In its statement, the agency reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing such groups to safeguard Iraq’s security and the safety of its citizens.

Photos released by the CTS show special forces members at the scene alongside seized weapons, ammunition, mobile phones, cash, and other evidence, with the bodies of the two deceased militants visible (faces blurred in official imagery).

The Counter-Terrorism Service, established in 2007 as Iraq’s specialized national agency for combating terrorism, stated it will continue conducting precision operations against residual terrorist threats.
