Teenager shot dead as federal police open fire on residents in Ethiopia
A 17-year-old youth was killed and at least six other people were injured when Federal Police officers opened fire on residents in the Goobicha neighborhood of Negele Borana town, in Oromiaโs Borana Zone (also referred to as East Borana in some contexts).
Residents told Addis Standard that the incident occurred as police carried out a crackdown on informal traders. The deceased has been identified as Murtii Issaaq Alii Duubaa, who was reportedly killed instantly in the shooting.
Among the injured is a woman named Aaminaa, who sustained severe injuries and was later transferred to Hawassa Referral Hospital for further treatment. A close relative said she was escorting her grandchildren to school when she was shot.
The report is based on accounts from residents. No official statement from the Federal Police or local authorities detailing the circumstances or responding to the allegations was immediately available in the initial coverage.
