Captain killed in Houthi drone strike on defense forces frontline in Yemen
A Houthi drone strike killed a senior officer and wounded others on the Harib-Ain frontline in Yemenโs Shabwa province.
Captain Mushtaq al-Hawshabi, staff officer (Arkan) of the 3rd Battalion in the 3rd Brigade of the Shabwa Defense Forces, was killed in the attack, which occurred in the early hours of Monday, October 5, 2026. Reports indicate two or three other personnel were injured.
The strike targeted positions of the Shabwa Defense Forces, which operate under the Southern forces framework and hold defensive lines against Houthi advances in the area bordering Marib province.
The South24 Center for News & Studies and other Yemeni media outlets reported the incident, noting it as part of ongoing low-intensity clashes along the front. No immediate comment from Houthi authorities was available.
Shabwa has seen repeated drone and ground attacks in recent months as Houthi forces press positions held by government-aligned southern units.
