One person killed in Russian missile strike on Ukraine’s capital Kyiv

A Russian ballistic missile attack on Kyiv late Monday killed one person and injured at least 10 others, according to Ukrainian officials. The strikes hit densely populated areas on the eastern bank of the Dnipro River, damaging a university campus, student dormitories, and residential buildings across the Desnianskyi and Dniprovskyi districts.

The State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported that a three-story non-residential building in the Dniprovskyi district was partially destroyed, where the body of the deceased was found.

In the Desnianskyi district, missiles struck the territory of the State University of Trade and Economics, shattering windows in a dormitory and injuring mostly students.

Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klitschko said nine of the wounded were hospitalized, including a 20-year-old woman and two paramedics whose ambulance came under fire while responding to a call.

The attack occurred around 10 p.m. local time, with explosions heard across the capital. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the strike, noting that the missiles hit “very crowded areas” with no military facilities nearby. Rescue operations continued late into the night amid fears that people remained trapped under rubble.
