Guatemalan Police Officer Killed During Eviction Operation in Izabal

A Guatemalan National Civil Police (PNC) officer was killed and two others were wounded on August 26, 2026, during a court-ordered eviction in the community of Macho Creek, Livingston, in the department of Izabal.
Officer Third Carlos Arturo Colindres Lorenzo, 45, was shot in the abdomen by gunfire from residents who resisted the operation.
He was taken to a hospital but died from his injuries.
Two other members of the police special forces were also wounded by gunfire.
According to police reports, officers had made three attempts to negotiate a voluntary departure with the occupants before the shooting began.
The eviction had been ordered by a court in Puerto Barrios.
The PNC issued an official statement expressing deep regret over the death of Officer Colindres, who was killed in the line of duty, and offered condolences to his family.
