Uber driver killed after being intercepted by five suspects in Ecuador
Police officers from the Manuela Sáenz District, operating under the National Police’s Operational Strategy 3D, detained five individuals in the area of José Joaquín de Olmedo and General Mires streets following a violent death in central Quito.
According to preliminary information, the five people are presumed to be linked to the death of Francisco Xavier G.U., who worked as an Uber driver. He is believed to have been intercepted by the group hours earlier.
During the operation, officers also recovered a stolen Kia vehicle. Investigators found bloodstains on the car and on clothing belonging to the detainees. These items will form part of the ongoing investigation.
The five people arrested are:
- A.A.C.A., 16 years old
- B.A.H.G., 17 years old
- J.D.M.V., 17 years old
- D.J.V.L., 17 years old
- Gilber José L.V., 28 years old (Venezuelan national)
Four of the five detainees are adolescents. Police said they will continue investigative work in coordination with the relevant authorities to clarify the circumstances of the incident and determine the responsibilities of those involved.
