2 killed in Durán armed attack before five suspects apprehended in Ecuador

Ecuadorian National Police detained five men on Saturday, October 3, 2026, following a violent armed attack in the Ciudadela Maldonado neighborhood of Durán, near Guayaquil, that left two people dead and others wounded.

According to the official account of Policía Ecuador, officers launched an immediate operation after the shooting. Through a continuous pursuit, they intercepted a yellow Chevrolet vehicle (described as a taxi-type car) believed to be carrying the suspected perpetrators on the Durán-Yaguachi road, near the Feria Ganadera.

When the suspects noticed the police presence, they accelerated in an attempt to flee. After the vehicle was stopped, the occupants tried to escape and opened fire on the officers. Police responded with legitimate use of force, wounding two of the suspects. The other three were arrested at the scene. The two injured suspects received medical attention.

The five detained men, aged between 18 and 31, are: Jeremmy Israel C. R. (29), Marcos Alexis M. M. (19), Alejandro Joshua J. G. (18), Luis Adriago V. A. (21), and Jefferson Ramon C. A. (31). One of them has a prior record for robbery.

Seized during the operation were four pistols with magazines, 32 unfired cartridges, five mobile phones, and the yellow vehicle. Police noted inconsistencies between the license plate information and the chassis and engine serial numbers of the car.

Specialized units continue investigating the incident to clarify the circumstances and determine full responsibilities. The detainees have been placed at the disposal of the competent authorities.

Durán, in Guayas province, has faced ongoing security challenges amid broader efforts by Ecuadorian authorities to combat organized crime through operations under the “Estrategia Operacional 3D” framework.
