2 civilians killed as Ukrainian drones hit residential areas, Russia

A large-scale drone attack struck the Moscow Region overnight, with Russian air defense and electronic warfare systems intercepting or suppressing 249 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) across 17 districts between approximately 03:00 and 05:00 local time. The attack was still ongoing at the time of initial reports, according to regional authorities.

Governor Andrei Vorobyov provided updates via his official Telegram channel. The most severe impacts occurred in the Ramensky urban district. Falling debris from a downed drone ignited the roof of a 21-story residential building on Severnoye Shosse. Around 400 residents, including 70 children, were evacuated. Twenty vehicles were also damaged.

In the village of Sofyino (also in Ramensky district), a drone struck a three-story apartment building on Novaya Street, damaging six apartments on the top floor. A 44-year-old woman was killed. Five other people were injured, including two children who required hospitalization.

A second fatality occurred in the Orekhovo-Zuyevsky district, where a 74-year-old man died after a private house was destroyed and caught fire due to the attack.

Additional damage and fires were reported in multiple municipalities, including Kotelniki (where apartments across three floors of a multi-story building in the Novye Kotelniki microdistrict caught fire), Leninsky district, Lyubertsy, Lytkarino, Kolomna, Yegoryevsk, Istra, and Voskresensk. Private homes and some commercial or industrial structures were affected in several locations. Emergency services, including firefighters, continued working to contain blazes and clear debris.

Casualty update

Medical assistance was provided to 20 people in total, including three children. Fifteen of the injured were hospitalized; six others received treatment on site and declined hospital admission.

The two injured teenagers (aged 14 and 15) from Ramensky district suffered head injuries; the girl also sustained a fractured collarbone and injuries to her shoulder and hand. They were initially treated at Podolsk Children’s Hospital and prepared for transfer to the L.M. Roshal Children’s Clinical Center. An 11-year-old child in Domodedovo received treatment for a superficial leg wound and did not require hospitalization.

Other injuries included shrapnel wounds and trauma among adults in Ramensky, Lyubertsy, Leninsky, Domodedovo, and Kotelniki districts. One man in Ramensky was reported in serious condition with multiple injuries and was undergoing surgery.

Governor Vorobyov expressed condolences to the families of the two deceased and stated that medical teams were providing all necessary care to the injured. Authorities have begun apartment-by-apartment inspections of damaged residential buildings, prioritizing the restoration of windows and glazing. The regional Capital Repair Fund and local municipal heads have been instructed to expedite repairs so residents can return to normal living conditions as quickly as possible.

Residents were urged to follow safety measures and avoid approaching crash sites or debris from the drones. Further updates on casualties and damage assessment were expected as emergency response efforts continued.
