Bus driver shot dead by an armed suspect while picking up passengers in Peru

A 60-year-old public transport driver was fatally shot on the morning of Friday, October 2, 2026, while stopped to pick up passengers at the intersection of Avenida Dos de Mayo and Jirón Miro Quesada in Callao, Peru.

The victim has been identified as Juan Daniel Melásquez Anca (also reported in some accounts as Juan Daniel Velásquez Anca), who operated a route between Lima and Callao. The attack was captured by nearby security cameras.

According to police information, the gunman fired multiple shots—up to seven times—at the driver before fleeing with an accomplice on a motorcycle. Family members arrived at the scene demanding justice. Police examined the crime scene and are investigating whether the transport company had received prior threats.

The killing is one of several recent attacks targeting public transport drivers in the Callao area. Authorities continue to pursue leads in the case.
