Retired police officer shot dead by hits at his home door in Peru

A retired police officer identified as Jhoel Anderson Zamora Peña was gunned down by a hitman outside his home in the third stage of the Pachacámac urbanization in Villa El Salvador, Lima, Peru.

According to witnesses, the attack occurred as Zamora Peña was arriving at his residence. Residents were awakened by a burst of gunfire. When they went outside, they found the former officer lying in the street, critically wounded, while a woman nearby desperately called for help.

Family members rushed him in a private vehicle to a nearby health center, but medical staff could only certify his death from the gunshot wounds.

The Criminal Investigation Department (Depincri) of Villa El Salvador is leading the probe into the killing. Officers are reviewing security camera footage from nearby homes and streets in the hope of identifying the attacker, determining his escape route, and establishing whether he acted alone. Investigators have also taken statements from neighbors and relatives.

The motive remains under investigation. Local residents expressed concern about insecurity in the area and said they are willing to cooperate with authorities.
