1 border cop killed as gunman opens fire during a night attack in Netanya, Israel
Israeli Police and the Border Guard announced Saturday the death of Sgt. 2nd Class David Hoyer Amrani, a 20-year-old Border Police fighter, in a shooting incident that occurred earlier in the evening in the coastal city of Netanya.
According to the official statement, Amrani, a resident of Netanya, enlisted for mandatory service in the Border Guard in August 2024. After completing his training, he was assigned to Hebron with the Judea and Samaria Border Guard unit. Approximately eight months ago, he transferred to Company 39 of the same unit.
The circumstances of the incident are under investigation. Police said Amrani was armed with a long rifle and opened fire toward officers in the Kiryat Hasharon neighborhood. Officers returned fire and neutralized him at the scene. No injuries were reported among security forces.
Amrani is survived by his parents and two brothers. Authorities notified the family and expressed their condolences, stating they would continue to support them.Hebrew media reported that Amrani had spoken with friends about difficulties he experienced during his service, though commanders said he was not known to them as someone dealing with post-traumatic stress.
