2 FARC rebels killed as army busts a kidnapping cell in Antioquia, Colombia

Colombian security forces conducted a successful military operation in the department of Antioquia against members of a FARC dissident faction, resulting in the rescue of multiple hostages, the capture of an alleged commander, and the death of two armed combatants, according to an official statement from the Presidency of the Republic.

The operation was carried out by the National Army in coordination with the Technical Investigation Corps (CTI) of the Attorney General’s Office. It targeted narcoterrorist structures linked to the FARC dissident group associated with the alias “Calarcá.”

Authorities reported that four people were rescued, including a minor, and a 15-year-old girl was recovered. A presumed leader of the criminal structure was captured. During the combat, two members of the armed group were killed.

Security forces also seized five rifles, one pistol, more than 900 rounds of ammunition, communications equipment, and other logistical materials.

The Presidency stated that the operation deals a significant blow to a group accused of extorting and kidnapping merchants, farmers, business owners, and cattle ranchers in the region. Officials said the action helps halt the expansion of criminal activity toward municipalities in northern and northeastern Antioquia.

“In Antioquia, the Public Force continues to strike with force against the criminal structures that extort, kidnap, and terrorize our citizens,” the official statement said.

The announcement was accompanied by video footage of the operation released by the Colombian Presidency.
