Russian drone strike on Kyiv apartment building kills 2 in Ukraine

A Russian drone struck a 12-story residential building in Kyiv’s Desnianskyi district on the evening of October 7, 2026, killing two people and injuring four others, including two children, according to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (SES).

Rescuers saved 22 residents, eight of them children. The impact occurred at the 10th-floor level, sparking a fire that spread to upper floors and causing partial structural damage. Firefighters extinguished a blaze covering about 100 square meters. SES psychologists provided support to 12 people affected by the attack.

Bodies of the two deceased were found in one of the damaged apartments during response operations. The injured were handed over to medical teams.

The SES released video footage showing nighttime emergency operations, including firefighters navigating smoke-filled stairwells, extinguishing flames, assisting residents, and working at the scene.

The incident formed part of a broader Russian drone assault on Kyiv that evening. Ukrainian authorities reported additional casualties and damage in other districts, including Obolonskyi. Ukraine’s Air Force said Russia launched over 140 drones overnight, with most intercepted, though some strikes and falling debris caused harm.

Emergency services, police, and medics continued working at the site into the morning of October 8.
