Woman killed after Russian shelling hits residential yard in Kyiv, Ukraine

One person was killed and four others injured in a Russian attack on the Ukrainian capital on Wednesday, according to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (DSNS).

The incident occurred in the Obolonskyi district. A car parked in the courtyard of a residential building caught fire as a result of the strike. Emergency responders extinguished the blaze.

Rescuers discovered the body of a deceased woman a few meters from the vehicle.

The DSNS released photos from the scene showing firefighters working to put out the fire on the damaged car amid smoke at night.

This report comes amid a broader wave of Russian missile and drone attacks on Ukraine that began overnight into October 7, coinciding with Russian President Vladimir Putinโ€™s birthday. Earlier strikes on Kyiv and other regions caused additional casualties and damage, including in other districts of the capital.

Ukrainian authorities continue to assess the full impact of the ongoing attacks.
