2 army officers killed in attack on mining brigade at Miski in Chad
Chad's General Staff of the Armed Forces (EMGA) announced that two officers were killed and nine others wounded in an attack on elements of the Mining Brigade on 14 October 2026 in Miski, in the far north of Chad. The army attributed the attack to the Miski self-defence committee and demanded that the group immediately lay down its arms.
In a statement issued on 15 October 2026 in N'Djamena, the EMGA spokesperson said the Mining Brigade elements were attacked at their position. The unit is deployed in the region to secure gold-mining sites. According to the army, the attack occurred despite agreements concluded on 20 April 2025 with self-defence groups, which the government says it respects and implements.
The EMGA accused the Miski self-defence committee of multiplying provocations and threats, condemned the attack as a hostile act, and warned that any refusal to comply with its order to disarm would be considered an "act of rebellion," holding the committee responsible for the consequences.
