IDF eliminates senior Hamas money changer in Gaza City airstrike, Palestine

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Monday that it had killed a senior Hamas operative involved in transferring tens of millions of shekels to the group’s military wing.

According to an official IDF statement posted on X, forces struck in the Gaza City area on Sunday and eliminated Shadi Abu Hatzira, described as a central money changer for Hamas’s military wing. Abu Hatzira led the “Geneva” money-changing network, which the IDF said transferred large sums of foreign currency used to finance fighters, rebuild military infrastructure, and support terrorist activity against Israeli forces. He also managed a company called “Gardena Professional” that assisted these financial operations and engaged in trade within the Gaza Strip.

The IDF stated that in recent periods Abu Hatzira had promoted terrorist plots targeting IDF troops and Israeli civilians and worked to restore Hamas’s military capabilities, actions it characterized as systematic violations of the ceasefire. He was killed in an airstrike aimed at removing the threat he posed.

The military said it continues to target Hamas’s financing networks to prevent the group from rehabilitating its infrastructure and capabilities. IDF forces under Southern Command remain deployed in the area in accordance with the existing agreement and will continue operating against any immediate threats.

The announcement was accompanied by video and photographic material released by the IDF.
