7 killed as gunmen open fire on a commercial bus at Kuru town, Nigeria
At least seven people were killed and two others injured on Sunday when gunmen opened fire on a commercial bus at Dungus Junction in Kuru, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.
According to reports, the attack occurred as the driver stopped at the junction to drop off passengers. The assailants reportedly fired on the vehicle, killing several people on board.
Among the dead was the bus driver, identified as Ibrahim, a resident of Bukuru in Jos South Local Government Area. Five of the other identified victims were residents of Kuru. A minor was among those who survived the attack.
The two injured victimsโa fish seller and an orange seller, both also residents of Bukuruโare receiving medical treatment.
The incident has heightened tension in the area, with residents expressing concern over the safety of commuters and traders along the Kuru axis.
Authorities have urged residents to remain calm and refrain from spreading unverified information while security agencies work to restore normalcy and apprehend those responsible.
