3 killed during a militia raid on a village in Tanganyika province, DRC

The Congolese Armed Forces (FARDC) deployed a military contingent to Kamena, in Moba territory in Tanganyika province, on Tuesday, 29 September 2026, following an attack by Bakata Katanga militia fighters.

According to consistent local sources, the raid took place in the early hours of Sunday, 27 September, around 4 a.m. The assailants entered the locality mainly to steal livestock, primarily goats. Several houses were set on fire during the attack.

Alerted FARDC troops pursued the attackers into the bush and recovered part of the stolen animals. Clashes that followed left three people dead: one FARDC soldier and two militia fighters.

Repelled by the army’s response, the Bakata Katanga elements withdrew toward the neighbouring territory of Manono.

Local residents note that the Kamena grouping has faced repeated attacks for several years. They are calling on the provincial government and military authorities to reinforce security in order to better protect the population and restore lasting state authority in this border area of Tanganyika.
