Uganda police confirm beheading of Rwandan dissident in Mpigi district
Uganda Police have confirmed the murder of Rwandan dissident and former soldier Robert Kabera, whose headless body was discovered in Mpigi District.
Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke stated that the body was found in Luwala village, Kamengo sub-county, on Saturday, October 17, 2026, though investigators believe the killing may have occurred the previous night or early that morning. The victimโs head has not been recovered, and the remains were taken to Mulago City Mortuary for examination.
Kabera, approximately 50 years old, was a former Rwanda Defence Forces soldier, military instructor, and musician known as โSergeant Robert.โ He fled to Uganda in November 2020, citing fears for his life, and had previously reported threats against him. Police have not identified any suspects or established a motive, and investigators have not announced a connection between the murder and Kaberaโs political activities.
The Rwanda National Congress, an opposition group, has called for justice and stronger protection for Rwandan exiles in Uganda, though it clarified that Kabera was not a member of the organization. Investigations are ongoing.
