Officer killed in armed attack on Daraa security checkpoint in Syria

A highway security officer was killed after armed men opened fire on a security checkpoint in the Busra al-Sham area of eastern Daraa countryside, Syria’s Internal Security Forces said Sunday. The statement, published on the force’s Telegram channel, confirmed that specialized units responded immediately to the attack.

Following an exchange of fire, the perpetrators were arrested, and investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances and motives behind the assault, the statement added. The incident follows a similar attack earlier this month, when three highway security officers were killed after unidentified gunmen targeted their patrol along the Salamiyah–Athriya road in eastern Hama countryside.
