Police officer killed in armed attack on service vehicle in southeastern Iran

An Iranian law enforcement officer was killed on Wednesday following an armed attack on a police vehicle in the country's southeastern region.

The victim has been identified as First Sergeant Mohammad-Ali Shahriari, according to a statement released by the Sistan and Baluchestan Police Information Center. Authorities stated that Shahriari was carrying out his duties when armed assailants ambushed the police vehicle in Mehrestan County.

Following the shooting, the armed attackers fled the scene. Local security forces and police units have launched a large-scale operation in the area to track down, identify, and arrest those responsible for the assault.

The border province of Sistan and Baluchestan has frequently been the site of clashes involving armed groups, drug trafficking networks, and security forces. No group has immediately claimed responsibility for Wednesday's attack.
