Retired police colonel shot dead by armed men in Iranshahr, Iran
A retired Iranian police colonel was shot and killed by armed assailants outside his home in the southeastern city of Iranshahr on Thursday, according to reports from local rights monitors and state-affiliated media.
The victim, identified as Ali Sayadi, was sitting with two companions near a roundabout in the Shahr-e-Daraz area when a Peugeot vehicle approached. The occupants reportedly asked his companions to step aside before opening fire on Sayadi, who died at the scene.
Iranshahr police commander Colonel Qasem Esmailzadeh confirmed the shooting occurred, describing Sayadi as an "ordinary citizen" and stating that an investigation is underway.
Sayadi, originally from Zabol and a resident of Iranshahr, had previously served as the head of police stations in Iranshahr and Chabahar.
No group has claimed responsibility for the killing, and authorities have not disclosed a suspected motive.
