5 killed as gunmen launch mass shooting at residence in Steenberg, South Africa

South African police are searching for unidentified gunmen after a shooting in Steenberg, Western Cape, left five people dead and three others wounded.

Preliminary reports indicate the victims were drinking at a residence on Blode Street at around 20:00 on Saturday evening when the gunmen entered and fired several shots indiscriminately. Four men and a woman, aged between 21 and 33, died at the scene. Three others—a man and two women—were taken to a medical facility for treatment.

The Western Cape Anti-Gang Unit is investigating five counts of murder and three attempted murders. The incident is believed to be linked to gang violence. No arrests have been made, and police say detectives are working to find the perpetrators while remaining on high alert in the area.
